David Cox is an emerging young writer from Perth, WA. He studied English and Creative Writing at Murdoch University as well as film/photography, graduating in 2013. He has been an active part of the Perth spoken word poetry scene as both performer and member of the Spoken Word Perth team.

Ancestry

It seems strange to feel a sense of loss
For having never learned the culture
Of my ancestors who didn't want my grandmother
Adopted out of a family for only being half Greek
I carry the memory of only 1/8th of a tragedy
A heritage that's not mine to grieve
An issue for a generation not my own
The same way a book
Has no connection to the soil
