Peter Roberts
ornithology
on the table, the clock's
pendulum paces impatiently,
disturbing the dust that has settled
underneath into flickering flecks.
your love is like a dead, dead rose.
on the table, a tumbler
holds a marigold, head
down, curled & brown —
fragile, brittle petal-flecks collecting.
your love is like a dead, dead rose.
on the table, the sky
lies cold & wet, & hard;
the slow sunset shows
red gold flecks, reflected.
