Caring for daisies
I want to write about the children
but all I see are daisies
weaned between the concrete cracks
of beer gardens and trodden on
to school them in resilience;
abandoned, to foster independence
and punished for hitting out –
From fear, confusion and hurt:
In a world which states
some children need
high barbed wire fences
to feel secure; and that
physical restraint is an embrace.
