hunger years
acid isn't hot enough to quell this spoil
the earth isn't deep enough to bury the stars:
strawdust clouds speak rain
sisters pull bones from their side
heavy ammunition as they slide:
a swell of swallow in a shallow kiss
pearl tree trunk cold
the eyes you saw me with
the mirror of the open sky:
the crows pick those years clean

Erik Fuhrer is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and the University of Glasgow. His writing has previously been published in From Glasgow to Saturn, ChicagoPoetry.com, The PN Review and the Fib Review. He has also published critical essays on Virginia Woolf and is an occasional reviewer for the Oxonian Review. He currently resides in Long Island, New York.
