Leaving our car,
we walk reading names on grave stones,
imagining personalities, meetings of bodies
and minds in the quiet of the Meeting House.
The guide's voice explodes in the silence,
asking whether we have come far,
what we would like to see,
how much we already know.
The benches keep their peace though,
as do the books in the library,
the costumes in the gallery,
and the centuries of the dead outside.
