Choice

A bruiser dog day, shipwreck
of wind, sea fog and ice across land.

Settings for shadows to seep around alleyways
into the tombs of the drowned.

High on a cliff is an outline of stone
where a man once woke from a dream about angels

to sing in creation's own tune. There is something
silk-soft in the wind - enticing and sweeter

than blood. An echo as frail as the loop of a hymn
or the long ago howl of a dog.
