Chuck Salmons
Relic
after Landscape 14.18
monotype by Alice Carpenter, 2014
with thanks to Brian Eno
Like a conch shell
marooned in fine-grained sand,
its strange quiet dangling
on the end of a thin cord,
we watch, wonder what waits
in the moonglow manner
of our dreaming, the way we're left
to our own secret place
under stars always returning,
we spectators held at bay
by our own reticence to plunge
silver-lunged into the fray
of the deep blue dawn.
