Earth Day Redux

Earth
Day

postures,
promoting
eco awareness,
the throw-away population
gives mother nature a nod, recycling glass, paper,
cardboard, mixed plastics, & scrap metal; on Earth Day, like Lent, we made grand proclamations
vowed to eat far less meat, consume health foods, & yogurt,
make tomorrow sustainable
perpetuity's
green lifestyle
future's
best
friend.
Earth
Day

eve we
gazed entranced,
twinkling diamond stars,
constellations waxed poetic,
took in thoughtful, planet friendly plays like Eco Man,
went to sleep with an environmental consciousness we pledged to maintain forever;
months past Earth Day, summer tempted, teased staunch disciples,
barbecued spareribs, burgers, steaks,
sausages and franks,
compromised
vegan
sworn
oaths.
We
should
live each
hour like
Earth Day, perhaps now
more than before, conserving our
resources should be a no brainer; we've lamented
about melting ice caps, species extinction, ozone layer holes, dark polluted skies
for centuries, felt righteously defiant—in tune,
global warming's a clear crisis
time to change habits;
may new smart
choices
guide
us.
