Alcyon and Ceyx

Dead,
drowned,
Ceyx,
storm-waved corpse.
The morning star's son
extinguished. His limp limbs' signal,
love's semaphore. Alcyon runs to drown on his kiss.
Their celestial fathers look down, Aeolus, lord of winds, Lucifer, prince of stars.
Nature's gods know the power of metamorphosis –
love transformed exists beyond death.
Two spirits take wing.
Alcyon,
Ceyx,
fly
freed.

Cyex is drowned when the angry god Zeus sinks his ship. His partner, Alcyon, sees his floating body and, tries to save him. (Their parents are the gods Aeolus, the keeper of winds, and Lucifer, the morning star.) Zeus, impressed by their love and sorry for his role in their tragedy, turns them into immortal birds.
